Wilson is centrally located on the Eastern seaboard, halfway between New York and Florida along Interstate 95, Wilson is located 45 miles east of Raleigh, North Carolina and the Research Triangle Park. 

The City of Wilson operates under a council/manager form of government. The citizens of Wilson elect a mayor and seven members who compose the Wilson City Council. The City Council elects a council member as Mayor Pro Tem. He/She serves in the absence or disability of the elected mayor.
