Delaware and surrounding Delaware County is home for many suburbanites looking for a quiet, country setting for their homes, surrounded by horse farms, rivers, state park grounds and lakes. Stringent zoning laws for Delaware County have been carefully enforced to assure a continuation of the country gentleman feel of the area.
Delaware has also carved a distinctive niche as the home for the Little Brown Jug, the internationally known harness racing event that is part of the coveted Triple Crown. This even draws people from throughout the United States and around the world.
Delaware County is governed by a commission type of government composed of a three-person Board of County Commissioners who are elected to serve four-year terms and a County government include: Auditor, Treasurer, Prosecutor, Common Pleas Judge, Probate Judge and Juvenile Court Judge.
Delaware City is governed by seven politically non-partisan council persons who are elected to four-year terms. The affairs of the city are directed by a City Manager and a Finance Director, who are appointed by City Council. The Municipal Court Judge, who serves a six-year term, is the only other elected official.
