In the mid 1700’s, Buckeye Lake was known was known by the Indians as the “Big Swamp” or “Big Pond”. Located in Licking County, the lake as it is known today was formed in the Glacial Period.
The building of the Ohio Canal enlarged Buckeye Lake to 7-1/4 miles in length and 1-1/4 miles in width at its widest point as we know it today.
From small summer cabins to new homes built on the lake, it is a short drive out I-70 East from Columbus.
