Westerville was a
typical Midwest college town with pretty Otterbein Campus just off
the town center until the suburban boom hit in the 1970s. It still
retains a picturesque and lively downtown commercial center and many
old houses on its quiet side streets. Subdivisions around the
outside edges and the opening of Polaris Fashion Mall have
contributed to its growth.
Westerville sits on
the northeast border of I-270 and has become a quiet bedroom
community including a restored 1900s downtown area. Well-known for
being the home of the Anti-Saloon League, Westerville has remained a
dry city. However, within 2 blocks most restaurants and
entertainment serve liquor.
A diverse range of
home styles and prices are available. Older homes come up for sale
in town but most of the real estate activity in Westerville takes
place in the existing subdivisions and the new developments now
growing into Delaware County.
A family-oriented
community, Westerville is bordered by Alum Creek Reservoir to the
north, Hoover Reservoir to the east, Blendon Woods Metro Park to the
south and Sharon Woods Metro Park to the west.
Westerville has a seven-member city council that chooses a mayor
from the council and hires a city manager. It has its own police
and fire protection. |
