For all you new residents,
Lewis Center

consisting of maybe 10 houses next to the railroad tracks and a
blank concrete pad where the grain mill use to stand, Lewis Center
has now become the area basically in Delaware County behind Polaris
Fashion Mall!
Recently listed as one of the Top 100 Places to
Live, Powell has outstanding schools and a new YMCA!
Powell Road
(Rt 750) stretches from Riverside Drive and turns into
Polaris Parkway
just east of US 23. Old
Powell Road veers off to the left just
before Old State Road
giving easier access to some of the communities in the
Lewis Center
mailing address!
Whether you are visiting Powell, living in
Powell or planning to move to Powell, one thing is certain – each
time you arrive at the crossroads of Olentangy Street and Liberty
Street, you will be reminded of “Days Gone By” and you will
certainly know, Powell has a long, charming history.
The first post office was opened around 1857,
Judge Thomas W. Powell played an instrumental part in the village
being granted this post office and in his honor, the town was again
renamed…and has since been known as Powell.
Until the mid 1980’s, the population of Powell
remained around 350. During this time, Powell retained its
rural aesthetics. The village became a community known for its
atmosphere and for excellent antique and craft shops. These
nostalgic shops remain in the midst of progress and development.
Although many
businesses are located in new facilities, the demand for the
historic buildings abound. An example is the old Powell Schoolhouse,
which has been refurbished for professional offices. The
village of Powell
is growing, but the preservation of the rural atmosphere continues.
